I knew that drift was going to stick a fish. I knew it was going to grab at that exact moment. I knew it was going to happen there and then. I set the hook knowing I was right. It was not knowledge or skill it was a brief moment of enlightenment.

Kim and Selena were determined and gave a good hard effort all day despite the 21 degree morning. We had to scrub every spot for that elusive winter steelhead. Finally, with only two more spots to try, “Set that!” Five fish in a row! Some days she makes you work for it.

The Roseville Orvis store is now promoting our guide service. We look forward to working together on a variety of trips, lessons, outings, classes and lectures. Special thanks to Hutch from Orvis “on the road”, and to Jason from Orvis Roseville. It was great seeing everyone at the Sacramento ISE show last weekend. The Klamath is giving up some steelhead.

“Hey Buddy. Yeah you. Do you like catching fish? Buy some of this stuff and come with me.”

It was 17 degrees out there today and we never have had a harder time keeping the line from freezing. A great day of Winter fun!

January on the Rogue. It’s a safe bet that you can nymph up some nice steelhead.

Personally,I love catching these coastal cuts.

Day Two. Lets all go fishing on the Rogue! Wild Waters Fly Fishing is putting a lot of focus on the Rogue River for 2012. We wanted to introduce the Orvis store managers to a great year-round fishery. Two days in a row without seeing any other anglers.

When a steelhead is caught on the first cast of the day its usually a kiss of death. No bad omens today.

Keith Lyon is looking forward to guiding for Wild Waters on the Rogue. The boat ramp is 12 minutes from his house. Home Water for real.

These guys bleed Orvis green. Wild Waters Fly Fishing Guide Service just became Orvis Endorsed this year. We wanted to show the store managers from San Francisco and San Jose why. The Klamath started slow with the freezing cold morning but by afternoon the bite was on! We boated many fish and plenty of adults like this one. Check out more pics.

I seldom need to catch one. …seldom. I really wanted to catch a fish today and almost hired Chuck or Keith. Instead, I had a great day with my girlfriend and loyal lab.

Walking while photographing sometimes gives great motion blur.

Good days are getting to be the norm on the Klamath as Patsy and David catch some winter steel. Happy Birthday David!

This steelhead had a 7 inch fish lodged in his throat and still wanted to eat a stonefly. The bite was on.
